Disclaimer: I do not own The Cat Returns, save for the DVD, my wolf charrie Baron, and future wolf, Haru. I liked the names, so here I am. ^__^
Onto the story!
It seemed to be an ordinary day. Or at least for Muta, who was constantly stuffing himself and snapping crude insults at Toto, the raven statue.
Baron drummed his gloved fingers on his desk, deep in thought. Was Haru okay? Why do I think of her so much? Why am I suddenly sleepy? He thought, taking a quick glance at his grandfather clock. He sighed. 12:18 AM. So he had pulled another all-nighter.
"Muta," he drawled sleepily, shoving aside his quill pen and ink. "Don't forget to put away the angel fruit cake. And Toto, keep an eye on him..." he yawned, and twitched his furry orange tail before turning to his bedroom just down the hall.
"Yeah, sure, whatever Baron." Muta said lazily, chugging down some sugar. The raven nearby gagged. "Ten table sthingys, Muta? Honestly. You're messed up."
"Oh well?" Muta replied through a mouthful of sugar. "Too bad for you bird-brain."
Meanwhile....
"Why did I leave? I looked much better as a cat anyway," a seventeen-year-old Haru mumbled, staring up at her ceiling. "Life wasn't so bad. Heh, Toto, Muta, and... Baron. Baron Humbert Von Gikkengen. Shame I didn't stay longer." A sigh. "I want to be a cat again..." She leaned over to turn the light next to her bed off, almost falling in the process. Haru scowled, and finally managed to turn the stubborn lamp off. "Evil thing..."
That morning was really unexpected. Haru's ceiling seemed so high up... and she was insanely hot. She peeled the now heavy comforter off her body, and sat at the side of the bed, dangling her feet. She looked down and shrieked.
"OH MY GOD!" Instinctively, she clung to the covers, only then realizing she had a furry tan tail sticking out of her pajama pants. Haru gaped; so her wish came true! But it was still... unexpected.
"Better ask Baron..." she mumbled, sliding down gently using her claws. But... how would she get to the Bureau without being noticed by passerbys? Toto? Muta? Haru sighed, rubbing her temples with her little paws. "What do I do...?" Surely Yuki wouldn't be able to tell her like last time.
Poor Haru was utterly confused and at a loss for what she should do. "Will Baron remember me?" She asked herself, carefully slipping on tiny shoes. Did all of my clothes change with me? she thought as she pulled on her school uniform. Surely Baron would remember if she wore this.
A loud 'slam' and a ring alerted Haru that her mother was getting up. It was still rather early. Dropping to all fours, the little "cat" ran down the stairs and went through the partially opened window with some trouble. She was now thankful that the airconditioning was broken.
Haru stayed close to the shadows, not once straying into the light. She could vaguely remember Baron's tea... oh, his tea... with milk it tasted wonderful. He was the one who got her started on it anyway. Her thoughts drifted, and soon she found herself on the familiar pathway to the Bureau. The confusing one Muta took her on when she sat on him and called him a fatso.
It was a long road for a little cat to take. Maybe Muta got exercise going down this way...? Haru started humming softly to herself, and eventually singing.
"Making my way downtown, Walking fast, Faces pass, And I'm home bound,
She then realized that this song seemed to reflect on her small "journey," and grinned.
"Staring blankly ahead, Just making my way, Making a way, Through the crowd,"
Haru passed numerous buildings; her eyes were darting around everywhere to check for dangers. Seeing none, she continued on.
"And I need you And I miss you And now I wonder....
If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass me by 'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you Tonight,"
Her smile widened, and she replayed the memory of dancing with Baron like a broken record.
"It's always times like these When I think of you And I wonder If you ever Think of me
'Cause everything's so wrong And I don't belong Living in your Precious memories,"
'Does he think of me?' Haru asked herself, the words now rolling off her tongue with ease.
"If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass me by 'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you Tonight
And I, I Don't want to let you know I, I Drown in your memory I, I Don't want to let this go I, I Don't...."
She yawned and continued on, albeit tiredly, the previous night beginning to take it's toll on her. Staring at the ceiling for six hours straight was not the greatest idea.
"Making my way downtown Walking fast Faces pass And I'm home bound
Staring blankly ahead Just making my way Making a way Through the crowd
And I still need you And I still miss you And now I wonder....
If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass us by 'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you...
If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass me by 'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you If I could Just hold you Tonight...."
Haru yawned again, almost noticing where she was. The little tan cat curled up at the base of a certain statue, her legs tucked in and her head on her arms, soon sound asleep. Of course, she was instantly launched into dreams about her Baron.
Back inside...
Toto, hearing something outside, opened the door to Baron's home with his beak, almost cawing out loud at the sight. Haru! Haru was here and... she was a cat?
"Better tell Baron," he mumbled to himself, stepping back in the house through the window. He hopped (Birds can't walk) to Baron's room and gently poked him with his ebony beak. "Baron, you have to see this..."
Baron just groaned and pulled the covers over his furry head.
Toto sighed, knowing that Baron wouldn't get up unless.... "BARON!! HARU'S HERE!" He screeched in the cat figure's ear. Baron awoke with a start, and glared at Toto. Then relevation showed on his furry orange face, and he literally bolted out of the room, stepping on Muta's tail in his sudden movement.
"Ow!" Muta yowled, jolting out of his sleep. Potato chips were on his belly, and scattered around the floor when he jumped up. "What's your problem?" He noticed him heading towards the door in a mad dash with his pajamas.
"Baron! What's the rush? It's five in the morning for foods' sake!" Muta screeched, following the orange human-like cat. Toto just sighed. Muta glared at him.
"What's your problem bird-brain?" He demanded, pointing a claw.
"Muta, are you blind?" the Raven statue said, pointing his wing tip towards Baron and what he was crouching over.
"Whazzat?"
Sigh.
Later.....
"Haru... Haru, wake up.... C'mon kiddo, it's 12:32," Muta said, poking the little cat-girl. Haru opened her sleepy hazel eyes and glared lazily at Muta, her thoughts clouded by... well, sleep. (A.N: I over-used the word sleeeep. xD)
"Whaaatt...." She yawned, covering her mouth with a tan furred paw. Revelation suddenly flashed across her face and she threw herself at Muta, grabbing his fat body in a tight hug. "MUTA!" She exclaimed happily, burying her face in his creamy white fur. "I missed you fatso!"
Muta just groaned, and Toto laughed. "Good to see you too Kiddo."
Baron chuckled and walked into the room, placing a teapot on the counter. "Glad to see you're awake, and-" he was cut off as furry arms latched themselves around his neck, pulling him closer as if holding on for dear life. He blushed. It was well hidden by his orange fur. Gently, he put his arms around the girl's waist and held her just as tightly, if not albeit tighter. He looked at Muta then at Toto. The raven just grinned, and grabbed Muta's neck scruff with his talons.
"C'mon Moo-ta, better leave these two alone." he said, dragging along a screaming fat-cat. Baron nodded slightly, satisfied.
"ImissedyousomuchBaron!" Haru said suddenly and incoherently, burying her face into his soft orange chest fur. Baron just looked at her, his yellow-green eyes confused.
"What did you say? I didn't catch it..." He said, purring slightly. The sound seemed to relax the girl in his arms, who sighed happily and tightened her grip on his neck, and in turn, Baron tightened his grip on her.
"I said I missed to so much.." She said sleepily, snuggling closer to him and closing her eyes. Baron just chucked.
"Well, I missed you too. So much I couldn't focus..." He drifted off, seemingly surprised at what he admitted. Haru just smiled.
"So did I. I stayed up for hours staring at the ceiling and thinking of you. Then I wished I could become a cat again... so here I am." Baron just looked puzzled.
"Why? I thought you wanted to stay human..." He said, drifting off into his thoughts once more.
Haru flushed. "I... uh.." she stuttered, not ready to tell him her reason. Baron just grinned, internally jumping for joy.
"It's alright," he said, pulling her closer into an even tighter hug. "You don't have to tell me now, but sooner or later you will."
Later....
"Toto!" Haru shrieked, holding onto his feathers even tighter. "Don't fly so fast!" her voice was drowned out by the wind as the raven went into a nose dive. Even Baron seemed surprised as he held onto Haru's waist tightly.
"Don't let go," he said into her ear quickly. "TOTO, SHE'S GETTING NERVOUS." He hissed to his friend, who stopped in mid-air.
"Oh." He said stupidly, landing gently on the pavement of the colorful little town they were in. Haru just sighed in relief and giggled.
"It was fun though. I really enjoyed it, but next time don't fly so fast.." She said, carefully detaching Baron's arms from her waist. It didn't work. The cat in a white suit just slid off the bird, taking Haru with him easily.
Toto just laughed and left the two to retire to his statue for the rest of the day.
Haru let out a small "eep" and clung to Baron's neck as he held her, grinning.
"Scared?"
"N-no," she replied meekly as he put her down. "Just surprised.."
Baron shrugged. "Same thing. Would you like some tea?" He asked, out of the blue.
Haru nodded enthusiastically. "Oh yes!"
Baron smiled. "With milk then?"
Haru beamed at him, grabbed his hand, and dragged him inside.
Later that night...
With a yawn, Haru snuggled into the safety of Baron's guest room, thoughts shrouding her mind. How would her mother react to her sudden transformation? Earlier while having dinner with the gang he had said that it was permanent. Also, they had been invited that day by King Lune, Queen Yuki, and their two daughters and son for a banquet, celebrating the birth of a new generation. A birthday, more like it.
And then there was her best friend, Hiromi. And school... She wouldn't be able to attend. But Hiromi... she would definitely tell her.
Now mentally settled, Haru smiled and succomed to the wam welcome of sleep. The tea relaxed her, and also the fuzzy feeling of Baron giving her a goodnight hug made her feel.... warm inside.
Little did she know that she was purring, and a certain orange cat was sitting on the couch in the other side of the room, reading a book.
Baron stifled a yawn and looked at his watch, albeit confused. He had come into the guest room quite some time ago, and he STILL hadn't read past the first page. It was then he realized his position; sprawled out on the couch, the book on his chest, a blanket covering him, and a paw absently being run through the small mane of fur on his head.
Looking up, he realized that his head was on Haru's lap, and her eyes were seemingly glazed over, kept half open to prevent from falling asleep.
If sleeping with your eyes open was considered strange, it certainly wasn't to Baron. Sometimes he had fallen asleep at his desk, writing papers, drawing, whatever it was that he did all day.
"Haru," he said softly, poking the girl in her side gently. "Haru, wake up... it's morning."
"Mrrf," came her response, slightly annoyed. She just snugged into the now sitting Baron, who sighed.
"Haru, the banquet is today." He said, suddenly getting an idea. He smirked, and began to tickle her sides.
Haru let out a small cough before her eyes opened slightly, becoming wider as she squirmed. The sleep had a firm grip on her muscles, and Baron was...
Suddenly thrown onto the floor. He grinned at her, before collecting his pride and standing up, offering his hand to her. "Sorry," he began, amusement in his yellow-green eyes. "I couldn't resist."
The tan-furred girl just rolled her eyes playfully, and took his hand gently before stifling a yawn. "Good morning to you too..."
At the table...
"We still have to get ready for the Birthday, Baron." Muta said through a mouthful of pancakes. He swallowed, then continued. "Haru doesn't exactly have anything to wear... is she gonna go naked?"
Baron almost choked on his toast, Toto was glaring, and Haru was blushing furiously.
"No! Not at all Muta! Queen Yuki said in her letter that she has many things she can spare for Haru. She also requested that you come too, Toto." He said, after a moment's pause.
"And... become chicken served on a silver platter? No thanks." Toto scoffed, pecking at the leftover crumbs, much to Baron's disgust.
"The party is going to last all day. We need to get ready. Haru, you're already dressed so don't worry about it. Muta... you're a lost cause. Go take a bath!" Baron said, grimacing at the sight of a syrup-covered fat cat. Ew.
Poking his side gently, Haru looked up at her friend. Maybe even more than a friend...
"Hm...? Yes Haru?" He said softly, smiling at her. He cared for the girl more than his large heart could hold.
"We need to get gifts." She said, a thoughtful look in her eyes. "Since Muta is taking a bath and Toto won't come, I could take you over to my house for some supplies."
Baron nodded, and proceeded to clean the table. "Great idea. What exactly do you have in mind...?" He said, albeit gently.
"Well, my mum is an expert at making quilts. And dresses. So, quilts for the little boys, and dresses for the girls." She grinned slightly. "I'll bet they're cute. With their dad's bi-colored eyes, and mother's gentle personality... Maybe a lilac coat."
Baron just shook his head and chuckled half-heartedly as Haru drawled on, lost in her own mind. How many combinations she could think of was lost to him. She was odd, that was for sure. But still, he loved her.
Or did he? Yes. He did. But did she love him too?
Someday you'll love someone... and they'll love you in return.
Hours later... (I'm too lazy to type up the house trip and stuff. Plus, I wanna work on another fanfic.)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY. That's what the banner said, with pictures of the future rulers on each side. After dropping the gifts off, Haru had followed Queen Yuki to her dressing room, and Muta was chatting away with the former king about food.
Thus, Baron was alone. He wore the costume he had used when Haru was captured, all because she thought it was fitting for the occasion. In truth, she thought it made him look handsome and dashing, as if he wasn't already. What she liked most was his mask.
All this went un-noticed by Baron when she picked it out for him. Right now, he was lost in his own world, unaware that Haru was poking his shoulder. "Baaaron..." She said softly, taking his hand in her own gentle paw.
That got his attention. "You're done already...?" He asked, stifling a yawn. Haru giggled.
"Baron, I was getting ready for over an hour. Yuki fusses too much." She stated, pulling him to his feet. Baron just stared at her, analyzing what had just been said. Haru rolled her hazel eyes and sighed.
He was staring at her again. This made her blush and look away. He smirked. She was wearing a purple long-sleeved dress with silver trims, silver ball-shoes, and a simple, but elegant amethyst raven with ruby eyes, fastened on a golden chain. In his eyes, she was stunningly beautiful.
Soft music was playing, and many cat couples were already dancing. Wordlessly, Baron led the little cat girl to the floor with him. He guided her left paw to his shoulder, while his own left found it's place on her waist. Taking her right paw in his, he led her about the room, occasionally dipping and twirling her.
A smile seemed permanently alighted on Haru's gentle face as they danced to the sweet tune of Moonlight Sonata, lost in each other.
(I'll fix it soon. x.x Sleepy.)

Yeah. xD I still need to finish it.
Did I add enough fluff...? I still need to polish it, add the background, and somehow, the plot.
Should this just be a one-shot? Yeah, I think it should. -fixes it-
